This week on #LocalGovMatters Gwyn talks with Frank Frassetto – the WI Director of Rural Development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The podcast starts off with Frank discussing “rural.” There are 75 different definitions of rural, and different state or federal programs use different definitions.
In the second portion of the podcast Frank talks about the ReConnect Broadband program. The pilot program is done, but another round of federal support has been made available so there will be another opportunity for entities to apply for grants and/or loans. The pilot program made $600 million available nationwide, in three different categories: 100% grant, 50/50 grant match, 100% loan. Frank emphasized in the podcast that the application process is really important since the applications are competitive, but entities applying can make sure certain information is in their application to increase their scoring ability during the application process.
Frank ends the podcast by discussing the rural development projects at the USDA. While many people think the USDA is agriculture, there is a lot at the agency to help rural communities. Check it out: USDA Rural Topics.
