This week on #LocalGovMatters Gwyn interviews Jillian Slaight, a Research Analyst at the Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau. The Legislative Reference Bureau is a service agency that assists the legislators and staff with research and bill drafting, but they are so much more than that and Jillian explains some of the other things the Bureau does to help beyond just legislative offices.
Several times during the interview Gwyn highlights that whenever she starts researching a story she contacts the Legislative Reference Bureau first to get information about how the issue came about, what Wisconsin has done on the issue in the past, as well as what other states are doing about the issue. Jillian explains that the Bureau is available to assist other citizens and other reporters with research on topics.
Jillian talks about some of the new things Legislative Reference Bureau is doing to help continue to preserve Wisconsin legislative history, including oral histories with legislators.
